Aged Men,s Attitudes and Admission Relating Factors toward Nursing Home

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to elucidate the attitude and admission relating factors on nursing home in elderly men. The participants were conveniently selected 159 elderly men who had been enrolled in a community senior center over 65 years. Data collection was done from February, 1st to 22th 2006. Data analysis were conducted using SPSS WIN 12.0 program. Frequencies, percentiles, standard deviations, t-test, ¥ö2-test, Fisher¡¯s exact test and ANOVA were utilized for the data analysis. The mean score on attitude to nursing home was 3.93 indication positive attitude. More then half of participants were intention of admission to nursing home. The main reason for using for nursing home was ¡¯dislike being depend on offspring¡¯. The main reason for not using for nursing home was ¡¯economic hardship¡¯, but intent to use if government support become available was indicated by 93.1%. For the preferable time to admit nursing home was ¡¯when I can not move because of sickness¡¯ and fifty percent indicated that the preferable place for a nursing home would be a rural or suburban area. For demographical characteristics, there was significant differences in attitude towards nursing home from living situation. And intention to use nursing home was associated with living expenses provision, number of children, desire to live with children and concerns.
